Support / Drivers for GVOX Guitar

Postby slimj442 on Sat Dec 08, 2007 3:00 am

I understand that GVOX Guitar is a discontinued product. But I'm hoping that someone on this forum might be able to answer a couple questions. I have GVOX Guitar and I previously had it working on Win 95, but I can't seem to get it working on Win 98. The software will run but I keep getting an error that the communication has been lost with the beltpack. When I check the driver under the control panel it indicates that the driver is installed, but is disabled because of an unknown problem.

(1) Were there different drivers for win 95 and win 98 or should the driver I have work under win 98 as it did under win 95?

(2) If there are different drivers for win 95 and win 98 is there any way that I can get an updated driver that will work with win 98?

Latest drivers for Win16 operating systems

Postby kpmadden on Mon Dec 17, 2007 8:32 pm

Hi Slim!

The latest set of drivers for G-Vox guitar of which I'm aware can be found in the Yahoo G-Vox group. Point your browser at:

http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/gvox-users/

and look under the files section. These drivers are 16-bit DLLs (dynamic link libraries), that make calls to DOS functions and direct calls to system I/O ports. This means Win95 and Win98 are the last two versions of MS Windows that have hope of loading and running these drivers. I'm looking at the possibility of writing a 32-bit driver DLL and 16-bit "thunks" to connect to the original 16-bit applications, but it's slow going (but going, nonetheless!).

Good luck, and best wishes,
Keith
